What Will I Do With All of This Herbal Knowledge?

I have to admit, I am learning alot about herbs lately. It seems to be consuming most of my extra attention, not that that says much. But I have been so preoccupied with all of this exciting information that now my dh Charlie is joining my bandwagon. Today we placed our 1st 50 lbs. order for Diatomaceous Earth and we can't wait to get it and start using it! As for my Herbal Berry Brew, it's still brewing. My Kombucha tea is still ferminting also. But I am enjoying the benefits of Chloryphyll, probotics, and cayenne pepper. And of course our peppermint, chamomile tea is wonderful! Until the next time...

Awaiting My First Herb Order

My journey with herbs is quite recent. My sis-in-law came to stay with our family while on bed rest during her pregnancy and her interest in herbs was a welcomed common interest. Though mine was idle, she inspired it to become very aggressive (unbeknown to her). So my journey began at The Bulk Herb Store where I found a wealth of information on herbs for so many conditions. There are a few things that are inspiring this research of mine. One huge factor is my sister's battle with bladder and now breast cancer. Not only do I want to protect (or perhaps find healing for) myself, but be ready and able to help her in the future should the need or interest arise. Another significant area of interest is that of relieving headaches and stomach aches as one of our girls has been battling lately. I am hoping that it's hormonal and that she will find relief with drinking some wonderful teas and taking some helpful herbs. Hence, the title of this post...I can't wait to get her started! Also, as I have began working from home online and I have been sitting at the computer a lot, which seems to be affecting my circulation. So I strolled over to the BulkHerbStore to inquire about circulatory conditions to find that Cayenne Pepper (aka Capsicum) was great for blood circulation, a natural pain reliever, and much more. You can read more about it here. So I began filling (about 1/2 of cayenne & 1/2 garlic) empty capsules of this little miracle herb and taking one daily, for a few days now. It seems to be relieving some of my circulatory problems so needless to say, I'm gaining confidence in this herbal idea.
Some books I have started reading are:
  • ABC Herbal by Stephen H Horne
  • Herbal Antibiotics by Stephen Harrod Buhner
  • Backyard Homestead by Carleen Madigan
My immediate (but not exhaustive) wish list is:
  • Practical Herbalism by Phil Fritchey (one of Grace College's own in Warsaw, Indiana) This book is supposed to be a great resource book to have as a reference.
  • The Whole Soy Story by Debi Pearl - I didn't realize that soy could be such a threat to us, especially children & women. You can read this article on Soy Alert.

I have found the 1st 3 books at our local library on interim loan and I am enjoying having the chance to preview the books so that I can make a confident decision about which books I want to purchase. Also, one concoction that is coming in our 1st herb order is the BulkHerbStore's Berry Herbal Brew. Once it ferments and I can start drinking it I will post my findings. So until my order arrives and until the next time, happy gardening!
